Veronica MAK, Sau-wa chaired a panel titled “Food (Im-)Mobilities and Multiple Global-Asian Futures” at the AAS-in-Asia Conference (June 1–4, 2025), held in Kathmandu’s Lazimpat area, Nepal. The panel explored how food serves as a medium for understanding mobility and cultural identity in Asia through diverse historical and regional contexts. Additionally, she presented a paper on the platformization of young farmers in rural China and Japan. Her interdisciplinary panelists included two historians and an ethnobotanist: Dr. LO Shuk-ying (CUHK) investigated the history of reconstituted milk; Dr. Venus VIANA (University of Macau) studied wartime preferences for white rice in Macau; and ethnobotanist Emiko TAKEI (Osaka Gakuin University) presented a paper on Burmese migrants and the reinvention of local cheese cultures.
