HKSYU showcases its heritage in International Archives Week 2026
Hong Kong Shue Yan University (HKSYU) participated as both an exhibitor and panel host at International Archives Week 2026 (IAW2026), held on June 6 at the Hong Kong Arts Development Council (HKADC). Organized by the Hong Kong Archives Society (HKAS), this year's flagship event focused on the theme, "The Art of Archiving." In celebration of the university’s 55th Anniversary, the HKSYU Library and the Department of Sociology teamed up to deliver an inspiring panel discussion—offering an inside look at the critical work happening within the University Archives and sharing the development of the upcoming University History Museum.
University Librarian, Mr. Joe Chow delivered an insightful presentation on the university's rich history and provided a comprehensive overview of the University Archives. He highlighted the ongoing transfer of the founders' records in preparation for the University History Museum, as well as the specialized conservation work being done on the founder's publication, 《血淚殘痕》.
Professor Libby Chan from Department of Sociology highlighted how archival work and research intersect to keep institutional and community history alive. A fascinating highlight of her presentation traced the legacy of Dr. Henry Hu’s calligraphy, which visibly anchors the campus identity across various Shue Yan publications and university buildings. Furthermore, she introduced how HKSYU's cultural heritage projects innovatively utilize cutting-edge technology to digitize, reconstruct, and preserve history, making collective memory interactive and accessible for the next generation.
A the ArchivesExpo, the University Archives team captivated visitors with a curated showcase of HKSYU’s legacy, including:
- Visual highlights of campus development through historical university photographs.
- Precious personal materials from the Dr. Chung Chi-yung and Dr. Henry Hu Hung-lick Collection.
- Shue Yan Anniversary publications.
- Research data from Shue Yan’s Digital Heritage Projects, including the Cheung Chau Bun Festival and the Hungry Ghost (Yulan) Celebrations in Hong Kong.
HKSYU extends its heartfelt gratitude to all the visitors, scholars, and cultural enthusiasts who joined us for this event!
