Dr. Weishan Huang Presents findings at the Columbia University Seminar
New York, NY—May 14—Dr. Weishan Huang, a faculty member of the Sociology Department, delivered an online lecture on Sociological Perspectives on Materiality and Religious Practices in Chinese Buddhism at the University Seminars of Columbia University.
Dr. Huang’s research, funded by the Hong Kong Research Grant Council (2022-2025), employs ethnographic methods to examine the spatial and social dynamics of religion in urban settings, with a focus on Chinese immigrant communities in Queens, Brooklyn, and Manhattan.
The findings will later be compared with similar studies of various religions in New York City, providing valuable insights into the evolving landscape of Chinese Buddhism in urban environments. This Columbia University seminar highlights the ongoing scholarly contributions to the understanding of religion and immigrant spirituality in contemporary society.
